I have been distraught at the loss of my darling friend Terry. I can't remember when we first got in touch, but his splendid "Mad Teak Party" happened early on, and victory over Petro-Canada. Over the years we had so many conspiracies of hope and so many diabolical laughs at the expense of "power." One April I telephoned Terry because I had just seen a dispatch from the Stanford University paper that Pepsi had left Burma. We were so thrilled, shrieking and giggling over the phone. Then I had to call him back when it was pointed out that it was the April Fool's issue of the Stanford paper. Oh well, Pepsi eventually left Burma and we could rejoice for real. I so wish Burma had been liberated during Terry's lifetime. But at least he was able to see East Timor, another passion, struggle its way to freedom at last. Terry was the best, the most committed, the most funny, the best antidote to our burnout, the best source on Y2K! I will miss him, miss him, miss him. I thought of Terry so much as we Free Burmas marched in Seattle last week. It was all so Terry-esque fighting the WTO there, so much his cup of mad tea party. My condolences to Terry's mother and sister, and Daniel, and the CFOB. love, Edith
