I first heard of Terry when I was seeking information about Y2K. Last spring, while facilitating a group an organic gardening group called "Seeds of Hope", I asked Terry if he would like to come and speak on food security and Y2k. He had been busy organizing and attending the Ottawa Valley Food Forum 2000 but generously agreed to come to our West Nepean meeting place. He arrived from centre town the next Thursday evening, on his bicyle, even though I warned him he would only have 10 minutes max to speak. Apologizing for being a little late, he distributed some freshly minted green an yellow pamphlets on "Protecting our Food supply". He also brought 10 Utne Y2K guides that I had ordered, saying he had lots more if I needed them. I gathered he had bought them at his own expense to have them available on demand. The next time I met him was at a COG (Canadian Organic Growers) farm tour. He earnestly shared his concerns about oil and said he had to give up on the Y2k food issue because there seemed such a low level of interest in Ottawa. My last contact with Terry was 2 or 3 weeks ago when he called me by phone to thank me for keeping him informed about our small Y2K preparedness project. He said that for health reasons he had to let go of the Y2K stuff but he would like to come to our newly formed 'eco-church circle' on Nov. 7. I was deeply saddened to learn we would never meet again. And deeply grateful for this website to help me get to know him better and appreciate the gift he has been to our jaded world.
