I was shocked and deeply saddened to read of Terry' s passing in Russel's McOrmand's e-mail to mai-not. The statement on this memorial website notes that Terry inspired many people who knew him, and many he never met, to connect with his vision of a better Earth. Through his work on the mai-not list serve and his mai-not website Terry influenced my life and played a part in changing my view of the world for it was through my early participation on mai-not list that I finally came to see economic globalization and the MAI as "ultimate betrayal of democracy" and from that moment in time I have never ceased to question and confront this tyranny and to try to find alternatives.

Over the past two years I have grown accustomed to seeing Terry's name in my e-mail directory and to working with him from time to time on one issue or another. Indeed when I had to be in Ottawa for meetings I would e-mail Terry to see if there was an MAI-not event planned that I might attend - and infact on one occasion I was able to attend an OPIRG sponsored Ottawa mai-not coalition meeting and to see Terry in action in just one of his many commitments to a just and equitable society. And just last spring when in Ottawa I sat down with Terry to plan how we might transform the MAI-not website into something more generic in the fight against globalizations many manacles. During that time we talked about the earliest days of the mai-not campaign and website and the influence of Professor Henry McCandess's ideas on "accountability" among many other things. He spoke passionately of the recent work he was doing in his neighborhood with the help of an Ottawa councilor whom he respected. .

My final memories of Terry are associated with my images of that meeting and of a quiet and compassionate human being full of passion, commitment and dedication to a broader vision of humanity.

This special memorial website for Terry notes : Terry's passion, commitment and dedication; his quiet, humble and selfless manner, and his contributions to struggles for dignity and human rights will be sadly missed by countless individuals and numerous groups, some of which he helped found.

I too grieve today for the loss of such a one who was able to extend his vision and compassion to the many and acknowledge that he and the mai-not list serve he founded are a part of my deepest consciousness.

I offer my most sincere sympathy to Terry's family and dearest friends and honour his contribution and ceaseless work towards a more humane and democratic world. .

all the very best, janet m eaton, Wolfville, Nova Scotia
