Inspired by National Geographic's 50 Places of a Lifetime (6 down, 44 to go), Paul Gross, David (Duv) Berman and Spice (on temporary leave from Duv's daughter) travelled from Ottawa, Canada to Tanzania, East Africa in January 2001...

Duv and Spice settle in for the long flight. Spice finds the economy class
seating perfectly spacious and wonders why humans complain about it.
Good Morning, Tanzania: The view from the hotel room in Arusha our first
morning in Africa.
Our
guide, Athumani Kayumbo of Kearsley Tours, drove us in this unstoppable
customized-for-safari four wheel drive vehicle. Like most Tanzanians we met,
Athumani was friendly, cheerful and knowledgeable about the parks and animals.
He answered all our questions and even got our jokes, most of the time.

Duv and Paul model shiny new safari outfits. Gear supplied by Mountain Equipment Co-op in exchange for money. Altitude gives northern Tanzania a temperate climate despite being near the equator. This made it easier to cover up for mosquito and sun protection.
